Seven young apprentices officially start at Knightstone
Today, seven young people officially started their 12 month apprenticeship programme with us.
The apprentices were welcomed to the company at our head office in Weston. All the apprentices are aged between 18 and 24. They'll be joining teams across Knightstone, from Resident Involvement and Customer Contact, to Finance and Maintenance.
With the support of our learning partner, Weston College, we generated huge interest in the vacancies, with 114 applications and 47 young people shortlisted to attend an assessment centre event.
Apprenticeships are just one part of our ‘Into Work programme’ which launches this year. A new staff team has been recruited and will start at the end of February, to support residents across Somerset and the West of England to find opportunities in volunteering, training and employment.
As recognition of our work, we've also recently become a member of the National Apprenticeship Service’s prestigious Ambassadors Network, making us the first ambassador in the housing sector. A key priority for the Network is to raise awareness of the benefits of Apprenticeships and increase the number of businesses of all sizes employing apprentices.
Phil Barker, Into Work Programme Manager, said, ‘We’re thrilled to officially welcome our very first apprentices at Knightstone today and it’s great to see our innovative programme recognised by the National Apprenticeship Service.
We hope to make a real difference to the lives of these young people and to other residents in our communities through the work of our new service.
The launch of our Into Work team is an integral part of our strategy for supporting residents through the welfare reforms.’
Mark Howard, Head of Employer Accounts South West at National Apprenticeship Service added ‘I’m delighted to welcome Knightstone Housing to the South West Apprenticeship Ambassador network and anticipate that their commitment and experience will be the catalyst for many other employers to engage in and benefit from Apprenticeships.’
We'll also be working with our contractors so that they too can support apprentices to develop their talents.
